Battle Stations!!!!! Incoming Dry, Oily or Acne Skin....... Your face doesn't have to be a battle zone. Understanding genetic factors, weather, our homes, cars and workplaces, as well as our hormones, can definately help us prepare for problematic skin. Drinking more water is a key. It nourishes dry, flushes oily, and calms acne prone skin. Simple things such as adding a humidifier in your home, bedroom or workplace can make a huge difference in the feel of your skin. Avoiding harsh cleansers that leave your skin feeling stripped is a must as well. Who says that clean has to be squeaky clean?! This is your face, not a dish you eat off of. A paper published in the Proceedings of the Fourth International Symposium on Cosmetic Efficacy (may, 1999), entitled "The Effects of Cleansing in an Acne Treatment Regimin") concluded that 52% of the time a hydrating face wash gave better results in reducing comedones, papules, and pustules when used with benzoyl peroxide. But if you want to trade in benzoyl peroxide, think about something with Manuka such as Living Nature.
Interestingly, recent research discovered that fluoride may be the source of breakouts around the mouth; Now if you suspect food allergies to be a cause of acne for you, take note, and I mean literally. Write down what you do, touch and eat.
Be careful with styling aids around the face that contain polymers that can clog pores and cause pimples. We don't offer those here, so that's one less thing to worry about. Don't get sold on the term "oil-free" either. Its meaningless. There are plenty of ingredients that don't sound like oils and can aggravate breakouts, but on the other hand, not all oils clog pores. If your using topical antibiotics, realize that long-term use can lead to antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria.
Lastly, don't forget that facial exercises, sunscreens and a careful eye to avoid unneeded chemicals can influence skin. So think long-term, your skin sure is!
