As one of the world’s first companies to produce skincare without the
use of synthetic preservatives or parabens, Living Nature is, quite
simply, passionate about nature. Our products work to naturally protect,
nurture and enhance the skin without any adverse chemical side effects.
Once part of the ancient southern landmass, Gondwana, New Zealand has
been geographically isolated for over 80 million years, in which time a
unique flora has evolved. Over 80% of New Zealand’s plants are found
nowhere else in the world. It is these rare plants that form the basis
of the exceptional Living Nature skincare, bodycare care and cosmetic
collections.
The unique, natural formulations are developed by a Research and
Development team who work with six external scientific organisations to
identify, extract and purify plant compounds for use in the products.
Living Nature’s products are tested for efficacy by Abich Laboratories,
in Italy, who have an international reputation for product testing.
Product safety has been assessed to EU guidelines and Living Nature is
accredited by the world’s leading independent auditor of natural
cosmetics, Germany’s BDIH.
At Living Nature we firmly believe that healthy skincare is
skincare free of potentially harmful synthetic ingredients and
preservatives. We make the following promises to our customers:

Our Company, Our Mission
Since Living Nature’s launch in 1987, our comprehensive
range of skin, hair, body, cosmetic and healing products, has
attracted a strong and loyal following.
Today, Living Nature is sold in stores in the UK, Germany,
Australia, Korea, Russia, the Netherlands, Singapore and
Malaysia.
All products, with the exception of the cosmetic
range, are manufactured in the Kerikeri production facility in
the far north of New Zealand.
Living Nature employs a staff of approx. 80, with 55 based in
Kerikeri, and the remainder in other New Zealand centres,
Australia and the UK.
Run by an executive management team,
Living Nature is a privately-owned New Zealand company.
We still hold true to our original Mission since Living Nature
began:
To create a sustainable, profitable, ecological, educational and
inspirational business that impacts on the individual by
promoting healthy vibrant skin; on the community by creating
employment; on the country by featuring the uniqueness of our
plant resources and earning export income; on the world by
being a model of ethical, honourable business and solving
inherent 21st century problems in a way that inspires the
human spirit.
Good for your body Good for the planet
Being aware of eco-issues is a hot topic and it seems that everyone is
looking at ways that they
can live more harmoniously with nature.
For Living Nature, 'ecology' and 'sustainability'
have been inherent in how we do business since
our company began in 1987. We are proud that
our products not only reduce the chemical load on
your body, but also on the environment. A key
benefit of Living Nature products is that they are
biodegradable – so whatever is washed down the
sink at the end of the day will break down naturally
without negative impact to the environment.
Our ingredients have evolved as part of nature
over millions of years. It's as if we are just
borrowing them for a short period.
Part of Living Nature’s commitment to the
environment includes not using ingredients such as
parabens, phthalates or EDTA’s in their products.
For example, chemicals such as EDTA's, a chelating agent which is
commonly found in food, soap and
cosmetic products, are slow to degrade in the environment and are
considered to be one of the most
prevalent compounds, produced from human activities, present in many of
Europe's surface waters.
As part of their ongoing commitment to the environment Living Nature
choose:
To use a carbon neutral electricity supplier
To collect rainwater from the roof of their Kerikeri factory
for use in products, cleaning and for general use
To have an on-site effluent treatment for use in on-site
irrigation.
Amongst other initiatives, staff collect food scraps for
composting or take home to feed to their chickens!
Living Nature encourages it’s customers to ‘go green’.
Packaging for a better world
As one of the world’s first companies to produce skincare without the
use of synthetic preservatives or parabens, Living Nature is, quite
simply, passionate about nature.
Living Nature original mission statement from 20 years ago includes a
commitment to a sustainable, profitable, and ecological business while
promoting healthy vibrant skin. We work hard to stay true to that vision
and packaging is a key consideration in helping us achieve this.
In 2005, Living Nature, was officially recognised for their efforts in
delivering natural, beautiful skincare and makeup products in
environmentally sustainable packaging by taking out the Supreme
Winner of the 2005 New Zealand Packaging Councils Awards for
Excellence in Environmentally Acceptable Packaging.
Our packaging includes using biodegradable and recyclable cardboard
packaging on our cartons, our eyeshadow compacts are also made
from biodegradable cardboard, and we even use magnets to attach
powders to reusable metal casing – so no glue required! Our
retractable brushes use shorn goat hair – so no animals are harmed in
making them
In 2006, Living Nature launched its new range of packaging after nearly
three years of research and development. This packaging is 100%
recyclable and made from a combination of Polypropylene and Calcium
Carbonate which is chalk. The Calcium Carbonate improves flexibility
in the plastic while avoiding the use of phthalates. It also means
reduced volumes of plastics, so once again, it’s better for the
environment
The packaging provides protection of the product from both air and
light. Because it’s positively charged – in other words the cap is on
the bottom, it limits the amount of air that the product is exposed to,
which helps keep the product fresh.
The bottles are made of entirely of the same material (caps and bottles)
and can be recycled without disassembly. Their previous packaging was
made from various materials (including glass) and utilised complex
pumps that were unable to be recycled.
The sizes of the bottle are now standard international sizes so come in
100ml and 50ml size bottles. Our skin essentials packs are all 50ml
sizes and are great for travelling or people who are new to our range.
In 2007, Living Nature was, once again, recognised for their new
packaging receiving a Highly Commended the 2007 New Zealand
Packaging Councils Awards for Excellence in Environmentally Acceptable
Packaging.
There are so many components that need to be looked at when designing
new packaging. For example, the energy saved in transporting the huge
glass tonnage from Taiwan to Auckland, Auckland to Kerikeri for filling
and then back to Auckland for shipping is astronomical in comparison to
the new plastic packaging.
Living Nature will continue to look for ways to provide the best
packaging for you while staying true to our commitment to the
environment.
Against Animal Testing
We believe it is unnecessary to test on animals and that it is also
unscientific as many animals do not have similar immune systems
or skin tissue to humans.
It has consistently been demonstrated that animal products do not
add benefit to a skin cream. Putting ingredients like collagen, taken
from a dead animal does not create the production of collagen in
our skin tissue. Collagen can only have an effect by being injected
under the epidermal layer. When it gradually breaks down over 6
months to a year and is removed by the blood as toxins and waste
product.
Today cells can be cultivated in vitro for testing purposes and we
have used this methodology to assess some of our own
ingredients. We have not had any of our products tested on
animals nor do we accept product ingredients from our suppliers
that have been tested on animals.
Having live plant nutrients available as raw materials that the body
can absorb and process and use as building blocks is far more
beneficial. Hence the Living Nature products provide nutrient rich
oils and extracts that promote and protect the skins natural
processes
Animal Ingredients
We do not agree with killing animals for beauty's sake and apart
from beeswax, honey and carmine, no ingredients are derived from
animals.

Samples are approximately 1/4oz packaged in a recyclable jar. These are not produced by the manufacturer, but only through Natural Solutions. The size and price were determined by the largest size container the manufacturer has available and evenly proportioned. Every person's skin is unique, and as with all cosmetics we recommend that a person apply a small amount of the product to the inner wrist for 1-2 days before applying elsewhere to ensure comfort and compatibility. We encourage everyone to read the ingredient labels carefully to avoid allergens. Please read our policies under Customer Service Desk as not all items are returnable.
