About our Products
The term cosmetics is derived from the Greek word
KOSMOS, which means world order or order of nature. Modern cosmetics is
the art of preserving and nurturing this natural order, that helps to
maintain and promote the beauty of the body.
The oldest known cosmetic products originated in ancient Egypt. These
cosmetics prove that it is possible to manufacture the most magnificent
creams and ointments using only pure, natural ingredients. Synthetic
preservatives, such as emulsifiers, stabilizers and fragrances were not
known and therefore were not necessary in those times.
Bees wax and wool wax are excellent nourishing base materials for
skin ointment. They contain a natural emulsifier that smoothens the
skin, making it elastic and soft. Pure essential oils, propolis and rose
water reduce bacterial growth and therefore act as mild preservatives.
Ancient Egyptians and native peoples around the world had a vast
knowledge about celestial rhythms and how they effect the preparation of
natural products, especially herbal remedies and cosmetics. In ancient
times, the preparation of body care products was in the hands of medi-
cine men and healers. They observed the rhythm of the stars and the moon
and discovered that plant extracts prepared at certain times had
significantly greater healing powers compared to when they were prepared
at other times. Today, the indigenous people of Central America still
prepare essential oils and ointments according to cosmic laws. Large
parts of this ancient knowledge have been rediscovered by modern
biodynamic cultivation practices and by spagyric preparation methods.
The achievements of modern chemistry have brought many changes; but
have they really brought us any closer to fulfilling our human needs?
Unfortunately, the modern cosmetic industry has succumbed to the use of
chemical bases and mineral oils that are easy to handle, that extend
shelf life for years and that give creams a brilliantly white
appearance. As a result, we see an ever growing number of allergies and
skin diseases.
We do not want to continue on this path! With our products, we attempt
to reinstate the natural order. The quality of skin care products
depends primarily on the freshness of the raw materials and the methods
that are used for processing these materials. We use the freshest herbs
and oils to manufacture our high-quality cosmetic skin care products. We
obtain most of our raw materials from certified organic cultivation or
Demeter contract growers.
Naturally, we do not use any animal derived raw materials and our
manufacturing processes are in accordance with the guidelines of the
German Animal Rights Association.
How to use MARTINA GEBHARDT natural cosmetiscs
All cosmetic products should be applied sparingly,
nurturing rather than inhibiting the skins' own functions. Using creams
with an ideal pH value of 5 to 6, you assist your skin in preserving its
natural protective barrier.
There are no cosmetic products that can completely prevent the
natural aging process of the skin, however, nature is abundant with
plant oils and herbs that can preserve the elasticity and vitality of
the skin, giving it a healthy and soft appearance. No chemical synthetic
imitations can nurture and protect the skin as natural substances can.
It's simple; follow your desire and try something that appeals to
you, that you have an "appetite" for. Surely, you do not feel like
eating carrots every day, do you? The same goes for your skin. Your body
and/or your skin will no longer absorb the same substances once they
are saturated with them. For different skin types, we do recommend
certain products, however, we also recommend that you trust your sense
of smell and your own perception since the herbs contained in the
products will attract you through their fragrances. If a certain
fragrance is pleasing to you, you will also harmonize with the
ingredients associated with it (the affinity principle). Don't worry, we
will not fool your sense of smell!
Product formulation
Our products are composed to support the functions of
the skin. In this way, you can be assured that your skin remains healthy
and will return to its natural balance.
Our skin creams have a moisture content of about 50 percent, e.g.
herbal extracts in pure spring water, and contain 50 percent oily
substances, e.g. plant oils, fats and waxes. This corresponds to the
composition of the hydrolipid layer (the lipid-moisture ratio of our
skin) of the skin of a 20 year old woman. Nourishing this skin layer
helps support the vitality, health and smoothness of your skin.
Moisturizing creams, fat based creams and oils impair the natural
balance of the skin causing the skin to become increasingly dryer.
We use wool wax in our skin creams as an emulsifier. The wool wax is
produced by a washing and centrifuging process that results in a
practically pesticide-free substance. Wool wax is an excellent skin care
substance suited especially for dry and allergy-prone skin types. In
our cleansers and facial lotions we use lecithin and pea starch as
emulsifiers, both produced in certified organic cultivation. Coconut
butter alcohol is added for consistency. This non-irritating substance
makes the skin smooth and soft.
All creams can be combined with any of our other
products.
